Brady is fantastic. I just finished working with him for my project and he is incredibly thorough, and also informative. There is a lot of stuff I learned I was doing incorrectly, particularly as it pertains to dialogue (I like using a ton of action dialogue tags, but was formatting these incorrectly). Fixing this issue ADDED—and I shit you not—50 pages to the finished copy. I think Brady will also add a new addendum to his contract after one particular plotline in my story (oops) and I cannot endorse him enough
Great article and super timely. I am in earliest round of editing my first novel and have a short list of editors-for-hire that I am going to pull from. Will certainly be adding Brady to the consideration list. Thankfully I have a journalism background so when I finally get this to a pro, the grammar won't be too disastrous. Either way, great article. Case studies are helpful to me!
The editor for my novel took 4 months (6 weeks was promised) and didn't deliver everything they was promised. The editing was also poor, and I had to spend and additional 6 months to get it up to par. Infuriating.
A good editor is something that almost has to be word of mouth. Too easy to game forums and SEO to be able to determine quality.
Damn, I’m super sorry about that. Infuriating experience. Finding a good editor has proven to be one of the most frustrating roadblocks to getting stuff out there at least for me. They are such an indispensable part of putting out good work and I’ve found the majority of freelancers just aren’t up to the job. It’s a real catch-22.

Yeah, it helps that he’s a very talented fiction author in his own right. About one of the only people I trust taking stylistic notes from.
